News for Immediate Release: July 9, 2018

Solar company pioneers new solar panel (module) recycling program in the USA.

A state of the art solar recycling processing plant is in the final stages of completion in The United States of America and accepts solar panels from coast to coast.  This new facility will be fully operational in 6 weeks.  The solar PV recycling program begins August 15, 2018 and following this pilot program, plans are to expand to three other locations in the USA, bringing additional job opportunities and new business to a flourishing solar industry.

Sam Vanderhoof, President of Solar CowboyZ recently said about the new company called RPVS, www.recyclePV.solar “Our companies goal is to responsibly recycle solar modules, and to keep solar PV out of landfills.  We are streamlining the process and lowering the costs of recycling solar”.

In 2017, over 40 million solar panels were installed in the USA.  This is the equivalent to 150 train cars filled with solar panels (6 million pounds) being installed every day in the United States. It was originally believed that solar PV would last 30 or more years. The truth is, many early solar PV systems are reaching the end of their useful life, earlier than expected.  There are reports that new and recently deployed solar systems are prematurely damaged by hail storms, wind, fire, improper shipping, poor installation practices,  and manufacturing defects.  There are very few environmentally friendly choices available for processing solar waste. It’s estimated that approximately 90% of decommissioned solar PV panels are ending up in landfills.   The volume of solar PV that will need to be recycled in the next 5 years is staggering.  “Recycling and reclaiming precious materials from damaged or decommissioned solar panels is the best way to make solar energy truly clean and renewable, from installation to the end of the solar panels life”.

Dear Concerned Solar PV Owner,

We are excited about a new program we have been working on for more than 2 years.  We are launching a comprehensive SOLAR PANEL (module) RECYCLING and PROCESSING PROGRAM that will be available throughout the USA.

We hope to work with you to provide a clean solution for solar PV recycling.  You opinion matters to us.

We see an opportunity for companies to support good sustainable business practices while bringing awareness to a challenging problem which we all face in this growing solar industry: to provide a comprehensive solution for the end of life procedures for aging and non-functioning solar electric panels.

There are only a few solar module companies today that offer rudimentary and difficult to use programs for processing solar PV on a very limited basis.  We want to streamline PV recycling and open it up to all consumers and companies that own, operate or install solar systems.

Solar PV has been deployed in the USA for more than 40 years and the waste stream for these aging systems has never been properly addressed.  Most older or non-working solar panels have ended up in the land fill, to date.  The Federal and the California government along with the EPA have begun to develop regulations and impose stringent requirements for the processing and waste stream of PV panels.  As an industry, it’s our responsibility to take action for the waste we have all created, (with or without government regulations).

In 2016, more than 6 million pounds of solar panels, were installed each and every day in the USA alone!   That’s MORE THAN 2 BILLION POUNDS were installed in the USA last year and this number is increasing by a conservative 30%, year over year.  These numbers are staggering.  As these numbers are compounded every year, there is still not a widely available solution to this growing problem of what to do with old, broken solar panels.

We are promoting the phrase, “Don’t let Solar Go to Waste”.

Many people think that because Solar Panels were manufactured to last more than 20 years, aging solar systems really aren’t an issue yet.  This is not entirely true. Let’s consider these following examples.

  1. Solar panels are failing because of manufacturing flaws and many of those manufactures have gone out of business and no longer support the warranty. (Diode failure, back sheet delamination, hot spots).  These solar PV modules are set aside for lack of a better way of handling them.
  1. Solar systems are being regularly removed to re-roof buildings and new technologies are being re-installed. The old equipment is set aside.
  1. Damaged solar PV due to floods, hail stones, hurricanes, tornadoes and fires have accounted for untold megawatts of stranded broken modules, left behind, and in many cases, these systems are less than 5 years old.

This problem is upon us now!  It’s called URGENCY!

We know that many companies are looking for solutions to the increasing piles stored in back yards and warehouses.

Staying true to the saying , “reduce, reuse and recycle”, we hope you will join us in our ventures.

Here’s some highlights of our new Solar PV Recycling Program.

  • We will collect any amount of solar panels.  (1 unit or thousands) (Service Fees may apply)
  • We will responsibly process Crystalline solar panels, insuring the highest standards of accountability.
  • We want to make this process simple, streamline and as hassle free for your company.

Please give any suggestions you may have as to how we may work with you.  We are available to come to meet with you at your request.

Yours truly,

Solar CowboyZ Team
